Per the bike store mechanic since my MT400's are resin based pads while the XRT are Metal pad compound, so since rotors are "used" and resin is worn into them they won't work good.
Don't need the bracket, as I have it already. The pc cost was same, these are pre-bled simple bolt on, so labor is actually reasonable.
I ordered them today at lunch, when they arrive I'll drop off bike for install.

Will update this thread afterwards for impressions.

Ah I was not aware low-end Shimano rotors are only good for resin pads - probably too soft for sintered metal pads. They're usually easy install yourself unless you need to route the rear internal and then you need to remove the line and bleed. I install the caliper loosely and then grab the brake and then tighten down seems to work good to get aligned, but my old bike needed spacer washers which was a pain.

They specifically say on them "RESIN ONLY".

$75 for a rotor.. :shock:

generally in MI i can't imagine needing more power than resin pads in a good brakeset around an affordable caliper can provide.

I use semi-metallic pads with 210 front 180 rear rotors on XT brakes on my trail bike in MI and wouldn't want for less.

Not more braking power, rather better modulation and 1-finger pull power.

One'll still get one-finger out of non-servo wave. And personally I almost like the on-off feel better.

The store mechanic told me they'd need "break in ride" ... so no they are newly mounted and squeaky ..... I rode them on my 600' driveway a few times ...

That mechanic is wrong. That's the wrong way to do it and will lead to brakes that squeal long term.

(Full stops, especially from speed, on non-bedded in brakes, lead to asymmetric pad material deposits and squeaking.)

You got it. :) That's exactly the process... The key is NEVER coming to a full stop during the process using the brakes. (I roll on to the grass and put a foot down to stop.) Around the 8th - 10th iteration of braking you'll notice brake performance ramp up tremendously. By the end of the process the brakes should be working like normal.

Did it at Brighton lot ... the kids cycling team were gathering for their ride ... I wonder if they thought “what’s that guy doing “

Definitely worth the $330 total cost, one finger stopping power and modulation , truly
