Wayne County Lighfest "Bike Through The Lights"

Postby hockeydaddy » November 10th, 2009, 5:08 pm

For a second year the Metro South Chapter is proud to be a sponsor of this evnt and as well as the Lighfest. Again we are volunteering as a sweep squad with the help of TrailsEdge Bike Shop (Mike Flack) and Beat the Train (Andy Staub). The Metro South Chapter is also sponsoring a light display as well. So show your support by joining us on the bike event or driving through during the holiday season.

From the Wayne County Parks website...
Wednesday, November 18
7:00 p.m. at Hines Park ? Merriman Hollow Area, Westland
Due to popular demand, Wayne County Parks is now offering bike riders a chance to bike through the lights before it opens to the public. Call the park office for registration fees and information in September. Co-sponsored by Michigan Mountain Biking Association, Trails Edge store and www.beatthetrain.com . "

Forcast is looking good for this and the county has been working really hard on the light displays. Can't wait to see everyone at this FUN ride.

At the ride a couple years ago, I met someone related to the park (park manager maybe?) and he mentioned they had swept the roads with street sweepers specifically for the bikers prior to this event. Gotta love it when people care about ya!

Hey a question on this, if I pull two kids in a trailer do I have to pay for myself and each of the kids?? But $44 for myself and two 4 year olds is pretty costly.

Dress them up as elves and tell them they're just part of your Holiday display.

I think the fees are based on per bike...not per person.

Mike, should I call Wayne County to find out?? Don't want to arrive and be arrested by park police for having two unregistered toddlers?

Can't hurt to call...But My guess is if your just towing them in a trailer that there shouldn't be a fee.

Just say they jumped in and rode bandit :-)

I called and they said it was per person, then they said they didn't know. I think I will go with the game day decision and dress them as elves, put some lights on the trailer and go with the holiday display idea a couple of posts up. Thanks

The fees go directly to Friends of Wayne County Parks which is a non profit. Rewards for paying those fees are an event t-shirt and chance to enter your bike in a Christmas costume contest. Thats right folks. :D

The person who answered the phone when you called was probably a volunteer.

This is a great opportunity to check out the light display on your bike without the threat of being taken out by a driver with no headlights on, steering with their knee as they hang out the car window trying to snap a picture.

If you guys need volunteer sweepers, let me know, I can help out again.

Oooh, this could be a good chance to raise the seat on the Shonky and clip on a bike trailer.
