2010 SPRING BIKE DEMO May 8th

Postby J.knight » January 30th, 2010, 10:40 am

Registration is now open. Click Here to visit the new outdoorathlete.com website. The event is free, but if you pre-register it will save you and us time and get you onto the bikes asap.

Update: A Lights & Motion sponsored Night Ride/Demo will be held at Island Lake Recreation Area on Friday, May 7, 2010 at 7:00 PM. Meet in the Dodge Parking Lot (the same lot as the Demo on Saturday). The event will raise money for Michigan Youth Cycling. There will be many Light & Motion Lights available to test for a dollar donation to Michigan Youth Cycling. Contact Jeff Buerman at theqsportsgroup@gmail.com or 734-564-7395 for more information.

Spring is just around the corner, and that can only mean one thing. It is time to get ready for the Island Lake Spring Bike Demo. Confirmed demo rigs by all of the usual suspects like Trek, Specialized, Cannondale, Giant and new for this year Felt. Also all of Michigan's best bike retailers will be in attendance, plus a couple new entries from other outdoor sports. So you can find the bike and gear you want and find the best shop for you to buy it from.

There will also be a few new twists this year such as the Trail's Edge campout and Light in Motion night ride.
Registration will open soon so make sure to sign up to avoid the lines and eliminate any delay to demoing the bike of your dreams.

MMBA chapters are all free to do any kind of fund raiser they wish. Last year the Poto chapter did a grilled food for a donation deal that even with the crappy weather managed to raise a few bucks. Just like last year, all chapters are invited, so don't be left out. I think it would be cool to have all the chapters have a presence at the event. Everyone would benefit from increasing membership, and as far as I can tell, less than half the attendees in years past are MMBA members.

As always good suggestions are welcome. Stupid ones will be will be met with scorn and ridicule. I will decide which is which.

One last note: We have been promised perfect weather this year to make up for last years washout.

You will be spared scorn and ridicule because I didn't put it in the original post.

Last year it rained all day. Will it rain all day this year too?

2009 was a $hitty year for mountain biking for me with couple events that I didn't/couldn't do to my satisfaction due to rain/bad weather, and a broken collar bone. , although I did pretty good on races.

Last year we had about 400 people come through. This was in a steady downpour and about 50 degrees. It is impossible to know how many we would have had with nice weather but I would guess 600-750.

Was there anyone here on the message board who stayed home because of the weather?

Update: The spring bike demo will be hosting the first annual Cycle to Fitness Quadrathalon. There will be some stiff competition for this event so if you are even considering entering, you better start training now.

Hmmm....

The World Quadrathlon Federation defines that a quadrathlon consists of

1. swimming (2 miles / 3.2 kilometers)
2. kayaking (12.4 miles / 20 kilometers)
3. cycling (100 miles / 161 kilometers)
4. running (26.2 miles / 42 kilometers)

in the above order.

The rules to this Quardathalon are slightly different. I think you can find the rules in Obscure Sports Quarterly or maybe catch live coverage on ESPN8 the ocho
