Need help w/new rear derailleur cable install and adjusted

Postby BLOOMIS914 » May 15th, 2020, 9:28 am

Live in Northville and have a ‘17 Fuel EX 9.8 that needs new rear derailleur cable installed, (I have it already) and derailleur adjusted to accommodate new rear 11-46 cassette. I converted bike from 2x11 to 1x11 and switched rear cassette from 11-42 to 11-46. It looks like the upper pulley is very close to 46T and doesn’t want to get in there without rubbing. For what it is worth I am running a Shimano XT Shadow Plus rear Derailleur so if anyone has any tips or suggestions on this I would appreciate it. Probably limit screw adj but not my thing or specialty.
Who can help locally in Northville quick and get me back on trail?

B-screw. Your 2 limit screws are right next to each other. The B screw is the other small screw. What model RD?

I believe the maximum gear for an XT 11-speed medium cage derailleur is in fact 46T, so you shouldn't have a problem there. You will just have to adjust the b-tension screw *clockwise* to the point where it will not bind while shifting up from 42 to the 46.

Thanks for all the help here.... between you tube vids park tool etc and some great advice here I got it dialed in beautifully with no dork disc and perfect shifting all the way up and down the entire 11-46 cassette. 1x11 is amazing improvement over 2x - I don’t feel like i am missing any gears and I am running 34T x 11-46. Thanks everyone.

FWIW: http://si.shimano.com

Full setup instructions for all Shimano drivetrain parts. Skip the crappy YouTube wanna-be wrenches and get the actual instructions.
