Postby rpdemink » September 7th, 2020, 5:57 pm

have a 11 epic comp w/GPX 3 spd crank, need to replace middle ring that is 33t, seems that they are truative, and expensive...can I use any others? or can I switch brand for less $ even go to 34T? HELP!
by the way it is 4 hole 104bcd if that makes a difference

You should be able to run pretty much any 4 hole 104 bcd. Like you mentioned, you could even go to a 34 no problem.

Thanks , I was hoping that was the answer, I was hoping it wasn't another Specialized "odd ball "like I have found with this bike before

Stock middle ring would be a 32. Be careful if replacing with a Shimano ring. Newer rings are not compatible with other cranks. The older Shimano rings will probably work fine.

Not sure if you can still get them, but the Race Face turbine 2x and 3x chainring sets are nice, affordable and work well, I think they were compatible with 9/10sp drivetrains. I've used them on GXP cranksets and have liked them. Not sure if they are readily available any more, but you might be able to find them on ebay/Amazon still.

Sounds easy, but it is not,
The offset between the sprocket tooth and the mounting surface must be exactly the same.
If that offset is wrong you be dropping chains like crazy.

I would change all 3 rings made be the same company and same style.
But then not all derailleurs work the same.

That spacing and offset isn't rocket science. Almost all chainrings list the offset. Shouldn't be any big deal at all.
