I-275 Metro Trail south of S Huron Road?

Postby kwakkles » September 8th, 2019, 6:05 pm

I read online on some web sites that the I-275 Metro Trail goes from Novi to Frenchtown Township, for 50 miles one way. Presently that's not true.

When the I-275 Metro Trail was developed and asphalted originally, in the 1970's, perhaps it did. However, to date in 2019, only the portion between Novi to South Huron Road is usable by pedestrians, while the portion south of the South Huron Road is not. It is un-maintained, overgrown, inaccessible, harshly unfriendly, and so on.

On online satellite images some of this southern portion of the trail is visible. It can be easily visually tracked as far as The Rest Stop in Carleton, MI 48117, between Sigler Road and Ready Road.

Are there any plans, however far away in the future they may be, to get (some or all of) the southern portion of this pedestrian trail back to being use-able for foot and bicycle traffic?

Hi, I don't think there are any plans to redo the trail farther south. If you are on Facebook, ask the question here:

I would love to see more bike paths and safer bike commuting options but I'd rather have paths built in other places than along freeways. I'm about 1 mile from 275 path and rarely ride it. I don't like the noise and air quality along freeways is bad.
