Horse Flop on Red

Postby JTJohnson17 » June 20th, 2004, 6:39 pm

Horse flop was found on red along rock and roots, grannys garden, the amusement park and various other spots. Looks like the horses are riding backwards again.

Jt
Did you doodie on the trail and try to blame it on the horses?

I rode part of the red trail on Wedesday. It was a little muddy but rideable. There is one tree down between the outlet of the Crazy Beaver portion and the trailhead. This can be bypassed by taking the short cut to the end of the green trail. In other words when you get done with Crazy Beaver an arrow points to the left. Go down the trail on the right side of the post instead of the left. Be careful, if you pick the third option at this intersection, you will end up going backwards down the yellow trail. The trail will be flat and boring for a while. Then there will be an option to go left. If you go left, you will join end of the green loop just before the trailhead. If go straight instead you will hit a road. Take a left on the road and go about 30 feet. Take a left at that trail and you will soon be at the trailhead.

Rode the red and the green trails last Friday. There were a lot of trees down on the red loop that require you to hike over but the green loop is in good condition.

A few trees down across the blue and red loops but fast conditions.

Monday 8/16 the trails were awesome. Wednesday 8/18 they are mostly a disaster. A LOT more sand where there was only a little before, and a LOT of erosion. Both RED and GREEN. Wiped out a half dozen times on corners when the bike dug into deep sand unexpectedly.. and I've been riding these trails a few years. Another large tree across the RED trail that wasn't there Monday. Oh, and Dorothy's house landed on the wicked witch in the middle of the YELLOW brick road.

I agree with Rollerguy. I did a TT pre-ride today, and the course was VERY wet. They must have had alot of rain last night. The course was much tougher than the spring XC course - tons of wet sand and puddles. Also lots of slippery roots to deal with. Hopefully the course will dry out before Sunday.

Rode most of the race course on 8-20-04....Iceman pre-ride! Sand sand sand......there is alot of it.....at least for Custer there is. And the horses have been tearing it up right after it rains. Lucky us!

On 8-16-04 we had a HUGE amount of rain fall. There is a lot of sand at the bottom of most hills in the Fort. On 8-19-04 the trails were mainly dry. It will take some time for the trail crew to take care of all the sand. Sand will be a factor in the Duane Chambers Memorial TT this Sunday. You just have to stay focused on downhill corners.

New trees down on the red/yellow loop area on teh freeway and near the end. A lot of the sand was cleared out after the race but has since started to creep back in! Usual muddy spots at the Rocks and Roots section.

Rode the Red then the Green loops today. 1st time riding there and what a rush! I love the Red Trail - just wish it didn't end so soon and that it was closer to GR. Def. on my list of weekend destinations.
