Western: Yankee Springs

For posting trail-specific conditions and problems

as of yesterday,

Yankee trail is in good shape. The trail alternates between hard packed snow with patches of ice and leaf covered dirt.

Warm up loop smooth, but a bit icy.
Main fat bike loop will beat you to death.
Everything to the west of the guard rail is bare frozen dirt and fun.

Absolutely brilliant today, with a couple inches of fresh. This is what winter biking can be. Ideal and idyllic.

Think it will be rideable on a 29er non fat bike Jan 2nd early in the morning?? Also, where is the groomed section? Will I need to avoid this?

Same question above for this coming weekend. Look rideable or an ice fest out there for 1/14?

Per the facebook conditions post looks like yankee is a green light for 1/22. I plan on heading out there later this morning.

Yes I should have followed up. Trail was rideable with more grit (stuck pieces of dirt and sand that hung to your frame) than anything else. With the weather in the coming days it should be fine to ride this weekend - especially if it stays below freezing.

Rode today and the trail was in a great shape early in the day, a bit colder though than I was expecting. There is a tree down after mile marker 7 (I believe...). It is on the S-curve decent that has the worn old A-frame at the bottom. The tree is located across the trail about 4-5 high so be on the lookout if heading downhill in this section (the Sunday or "original" trail direction).

To those that have already removed the trees, thanks a ton! Your efforts are appreciated.

Looking to ride Yankee Sunday (after BRX on Saturday), coming from SE Michigan. Any hints as to trail conditions after the rain Friday and Saturday?
