I rode the winter loop this morning. It was frozen solidly, icy and badly rutted in a few spots by someone riding and walking when it was slush. Overall better to ride than not, but slow going.

Still nice & crunchy today at 2. Bomb crater sized footprints still there, making the ride more challenging.

As of 1 pm today trail was great. Fresh snow filled in the gaps and ruts making for smooth riding.

Trail was smooth and easy but will soften up as the day gets warmer. Ride early, ride often.

The trail was perfect this morning. There were just a few icy spots and a soft patch or two where the sun hit the trail. It may hold up for quite a while today, enjoy!!!

Trail was awesome at 9am but rapidly deteriorating by noon. Put up the signs hoping people will stay off until/if we get some more cold weather.

They use to put chains across the trail to help people with their thinking, I hope the signs work too.
When was the first bicycle race?
When the second one was built !!!

I liked the chains, but understand would be tough for TC going back and forth putting up and taking down like a yoyo! Shameless knuckle heads who ride when the trail is thawing quagmire would probably go around anyhow. I still can't comprehend why anyone would rather ride in peanut butter than paved paths those days.

to be fair, before i was educated on trail conditions and etiquette, i had an absolute BLAST on rainy/muddy days. I loved coming home after riding around hines/dearborn/novi trails covered in mud and soaked in water. I felt like a badass mtber. Dont worry this was a few years ago and Im aware of what that does now aha. I had a wal mart tony hawk bike probably weighed 40lbs and was like 3x6 with rim brakes and a quill stem.

I forgot to mention, it is very fun still. Albeit your not flying with speed like on a hard pack trail, its just a different sensation you feel. I dont do it here, but I was at windrock last year during a heavy rain period and also this past weekend when it was the tail end of a cold/snow coming into sunny/thaw. Lets just say I was practically skiing/snowboarding down some sections and was covered in mud. Literally one trail caked my entire bike and i couldnt move it, it was like cookie dough. I still had a blast considering how much speed you can acquire there, and they dont care as much. Its open year round, rain or shine, thats why i love it. I think here though would get absolutely destroyed due to lack of proper drainage and elevation, hence the closings. Makes sense.

Firm now but soon to be squishy. Will be a mess by this afternoon. Still plenty of snow and ice which will melt and cause big muddy. Good time to sharpen your road riding skills.
