What a difference a day makes. Trails are quite icy compared to yesterday. Studded tires would help.

Looks like Kent Co Parks hope to save the barn, new shingles were applied.

Rode 10 miles at Luton Park today, Orange loop a little icy but overall all the loops are in great shape.

trail conditions are poor. the warm weather and rain have softened the trail above the frost line since it can't drain well.
I rode my bike past there today and saw 4 cars in the parking lot and tire ruts in the muddy trails, great, now those ruts will freeze tomorrow night and make riding out there a real pleasure until the next thaw. :x

2 laps at Luton today. The trail is frozen with a 1" dusting of snow. Lap two was slipperier. Beware of the ice on the downhill corner on the Yellow Loop.

Nate from Freewheeler and I rode Luton today, a little slick from the fresh snow but still fun. Rode 12 miles

I rode around 11 and was smooth sailing. Couple of snow shoe bikers made it bumpy on blue but rest was great.

Rode Luton Park this afternoon trails are mostly hard packed and great to ride. Thanks to all the hikers, snowshoe rs and cross country skiers for packing the trails. This is one place where everyone is welcome to get outside.

I have been getting a number of emails wondering if the trails are ride able. As of today there is still 6" of slushy snow on the trails. I can't imagine it is worth the trip to try and ride in it. If all the snow melts by Saturday (unlikely since the snow in the woods is deeper and packed hard by feet, snowshoes, tires and skis all winter) please avoid riding the trails if the soil is not frozen solid. Ride early a.m. when it is below freezing only. Another sign that the trails are ready to ride when it is above freezing is after you start seeing worms on your driveway, then the soil is thawed and will drain when it rains.

thanks
Rick

Rick, do you think the trail will be ready by mid March?

all depends on the weather. next week looks relatively cold so that will slow down the thaw. wait until you see worms in the driveway, that is a clue that the ground has thawed.

With 50-60 degrees predicted the next 4 days and sunshine on Saturday I can already see the mess being created at Luton Park. It wont be ready to ride yet, please wait until drier conditions

Checked it out today3/16 and no where near ready for riding. Still ice/snow packed even sections in the open fields. Don't even try and ride for a bit.

Picture of the trail through the edge of the field 3/16. Plenty of snow in the open - even more snow in the woods.
My trail hound snuck in the picture :)
