Lapeer Oakdale Trails-New loop work/ride days early notice

Postby Josh McCreedy » September 18th, 2018, 8:10 am

With over 2.5 miles of Green Circle trail on the ground at the old Oakdale property, we are ready to begin construction on the next 1-mile loop, a Blue Square (more difficult!) section tentatively called High Banks or East Creek. This spur will add another loop on the east side of Farmer's Creek, adjacent to the solar installation you see from I-69.

September 30: 12-3
October 6: 1-4
October 13: 1-4

All of these days will include a group ride and snacks/beverages afterward. Bring gloves, personal tools, and water, but we will have backups available. These trails are supported by the City of Lapeer and will eventually be 8-10 miles of trail all accessible from a trailhead behind Chatfield School. The trailhead is already in place, as it is the start of the crushed limestone Ponds and Prairies loops.

Thanks,

Josh McCreedy

A couple corrections and additions to the previous post:

Sunday, Sept. 3: 12-3 Meet at the Ponds and Prairies Trailhead located off Demille Blvd. behind the Lapeer Mott Community College Building (adjacent to Chatfield School.
October 6 will run from 3-6. Meet at same trailhead for some finishing work: tread tuning/compacting, drainage, tuning of berms/jumps, etc.
October 13: 1-4. Meet at same trailhead. We should be doing finish work to follow the mini-ex and Ditch Witch at this point.

Happy Take A Kid Mountain Biking Weekend!

There is a pretty cool event--a bike rodeo--from 10-2 on the DeMille Bowl loop with kids races and a very informal adult race.

From 3-6, volunteers and the trail contractors will do some finish work and enhancements on the same trail area. Park behind Mott College and Chatfield School at the Ponds and Prairies trailhead and kiosk. We will be rocking the U17 and hand tools to finish berms, rollers, and some drainage improvements.
