This is what happens when the freeride folks are allowed to build within a state park.
All of this happens within about 50 ft of vertical.
Fun place to ride.

And it was all built in sand and no erosion - Michigan needs that sand

The trails all look hand built without the aid of machines.
Unfortunately in Michigan the bureaucrats are now building our trails by using machines and paper. And why not, they have built all the great roads in the state.
Unfortunately, there is only one Pete, and even Stoney is soon to be turned into a dirt side walk. (complete with stop signs)
There was a time when all of MMBA pulled together and saved both PLR and the Tree Farm and then built the Hick. (maybe 15 miles of new trail in 1 year - not sure )
Unfortunately we have turned the trail building over to the Suits!
My rants is over !

Definitely some magic sand down there.
It's an old Phosphate mine so I assume that's what is holding it all together. It rides like clay, the surface even gets slick when wet.
Yes, it's old school there for sure.
Mother nature will always have her way in the end, even DTE is starting to loose it's buffed surface, but don't get me wrong, I like all kinds of trails.
We're spoiled around here, we've got plenty to choose from.

Alafia and Santos are two amazing trails and right next to each other!

Building new trails are fun, but improving current trails can be just as rewarding.

Apparently, a bike shop has "set-up camp" at Alafia.

It looks like you can rent your bike right there now.
If that's the case, that's awesome.

I was there in April last year. I think I do remember a shop being right off the lot.
