Trail Conditions? Bald Mt. N., Bloomer, Stoney Creek Metro?

Postby trainingwheels! » February 25th, 2012, 8:14 pm

I am a student at Michigan Tech but I am heading home for spring break (March 3rd), I am wondering if the trails are in good condition.
Does anyone know if Bald Mountain North, Bloomer, Stoney Creek Metro or other trails in this area are in good condition?

I have been itching to get on two wheels again all winter, skiing just doesn't fill the void for me.

Check the weather. If it's regularly been below freezing they'll be fine, but if not then they shouldn't be ridden (and won't be fun to ride).

Yep.

Since it is warming up tomorrow stay off the MTB trails or you will create the pizza cutters that are hard to fix and hard to ride on. Try the rail trails or a road ride.

The Macomb Orchard Trail can be gotten on near Stony's entrance at 25 mile and Shelby road. You could ride all day on that and it is paved (less bike cleaning required). It cuts through lots of wooded areas so it is still has good scenery.

Stony is a mess right now, too many people out trying to ride while the top layer is thawed, best to stick with roads unless we get a prolonged cold spell

After that storm from yesterday, Bald north was in suprisingly good shape. Ranger house, Ditch along side Harmon , behind those cabins, and the two usual spots between 7&8 and 14&15 ( though I didn't ride behind the rangers house I'd just assume it was a mud pit anyways).
